A great deal of confusion has prevailed over the matter of the construction of a waiting room for a hospital. The Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram has been seeking funds to build a waiting room. Initially, Infosys had undertaken to contribute Rs. 35 lakhs. However, the tech major later cited ‘technical reasons’ to excuse itself from contributing the amount, says the Indian Express.

Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor then stepped in and contributed Rs. 20 lakhs from the MP’s fund for the construction. All is not well yet at the hospital, for a new controversy has erupted regarding the construction. A dispute has arisen over getting the PWD to build the waiting room or to hand over the responsibility to the local self government.

The report says that the regular practice is to assign construction work to the PWD. In this case, a group of politicians have argued that the local self government should be given the task. As a result, a meeting has been convened to discuss the matter on February 10. The proposed waiting room is to be an eco friendly building, to ease the chaos caused by the patients’ visitors.
